"Z-Min" Pool Media

Filter media for swimming pools
Effective filter media from 100% natural mineral superior water quality unmatched by traditional methods of pool filtration

Benefits

  • Better Filtration - down to 2 microns
  • Higher dirt capacity than sand or glass filters
  • High Cation Exchange Capacity (reduction of TDS)
  • Absorbs ammonia and prevents chloramines buildup
  • Saves Water - Up to 30% (through less frequent backwash)
  • Saves Chemicals - Less Chlorine, etc.
  • Can be regenerated for long-term high efficiency
  • Extended life cycle (5-7 years)
  • Ease of use (direct substitution of sand)

Unique features:

  • "Z-Min Pool Media" is a high purity (average 80%) clinoptilolite - a natural porous mineral that combines two important properties: sorption and ion-exchange. The physical structure of clinoptilolite resembles a "honeycomb-like" network of channels and pores which occupy up to 40% of the mineral's surface providing it with an exceptionally high surface area of more than 20 m2/g, all of which can be used to trap enormous amounts of suspended solids (dirt) in the pool water.
  • Moreover, due to the natural imbalance of its alumino-silicate structure, clinoptilolite has a net negative charge resulting in the mineral's ability to attract positively charged ions of a selected size, and hold them within its porous body. This process is called ion-exchange. The ion-exchange capacity (CEC) of clinoptilolite is especially high for organic nitrogenous compounds, such as ammonium (NH3) and its magnitude is directly proportional to the purity of the mineral. Being a high-purity clinoptilolite, Z-Min Pool Media has an exceptionally high CEC level of 160 – 180 meq/100g (meaning that 100g of Z-Min can adsorb up to 180 milligrams of ammonium). This is very important since ammonium is usually formed in swimming pools from human detritus from skin cells and urea. When combined with chlorine used to treat pool water, it creates a chemical compound called chloramine which produces the unpleasant "chlorine" smell around the pool area and irritates swimmers' eyes.
  • These two unique properties of "Z-Min Pool Media" will guarantee that your pool water is always clean and crystal clear. Besides the superior water quality produced for bathers, usage of chlorine as well as other additional chemicals is markedly reduced as ammonium and other organic contaminants are removed, which is reflected in lower TDS (total dissolved solids) parameters of the water.
  • As with any other filter media both the absorption capability and ion exchange capacity of Z-Min Pool Media will be reduced with time as its pores are clogged with dirt and ammonium. But the good news is that both these properties can be easily regenerated.
  • For the media to regain its dirt holding capacity a simple backwash process (like any sand filter, but with less water) will do the trick.
  • And in order to regenerate Z-Min's ion exchange capacity all you need to do is soak it for 6-10 hours in a 10% salt (NaCl) solution (1kg of salt for 10 liters of water). The amount of solution to be used is 1 liter per 1 kg of Z-Min. After soaking for the required time, the recharged filter should be backwashed in the normal way before further use.
